Facilitating Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a process for creative problem solving, starting from a very human-centred perspective. When you sit down to create a solution for a business need, the first question should always be “what's the human need behind it?”

You’re drawing together what’s desirable from a human point of view with what is technologically feasible and economically viable. It also allows those who aren't trained as designers to use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges. The process starts understanding the right questions. It’s about embracing simple mindset shifts and tackling problems from new directions.

This one day course will move through each step in a design thinking process.

It will also highlight facilitation tools and activities required to guide a group through each step.

This interactive workshop will showcase a variety of facilitation skills that participants will also have an opportunity to practice.

Note that this is NOT an award VET accredited course.

The workshop facilitator is Ian Colley from Make Stuff Happen. The course draws on Ian’s practical experience conducting hundreds of facilitated events for dozens of clients in government, business and community settings. Ian is an expert in change and learning. He commonly deals with ‘tricky’ issues – building common ground between diverse interests, solving difficult problems, creating clarity about uncertain futures. Ian has taught at the University of Technology Sydney since 2005, creating learning experiences that are exciting and practical.

Contact Information

For specific queries regarding course content or enrolment and payment, please contact accessUTS via email accessUTStraining@uts.edu.au or Tel: +61 (02) 9514 9236.
